This work by was originally published in French in 1924, the format at the time was such that the image plates were placed as an appendix and it was therefore necessary to flip from the description at one end of the book to the image at the other end. This volume has transferred the relevant image to coincide with the descriptions. The descriptions in the original book were very brief and have been augmented with additional information from various sources, regrettably, some were not available and solely rely on the original book entries. This volume, it is hoped, will bring the work to a larger English-speaking audience and can add to the study of Japanese sword-guards as Mr Poncetton would likely have intended.
