Cataloguing some hundred thousand examples of ancient Greek painted pottery held in collections around the world, the Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum (CVA) is the oldest research project of the Union Académique Internationale, a federation of national academies from more than sixty countries. Nearly four hundred volumes have been published since the first fascicule of the CVA appeared in 1922.
This new fascicule presents all the Attic red-figure vessels, except for wine cups and oil bottles, in the Princeton University Art Museum’s collections. Among the forty-four works catalogued, which range in date from the late sixth to the mid-fourth century BCE, are a significant column-krater by the Suessula Painter and notable hydriai by the Dikaios Painter, Polygnotos, and the Niobid Painter. The fascicule was authored by William L. Austin, a former research associate at the Museum and a graduate alumnus of Princeton University’s Department of Art & Archaeology, and former Museum curator J. Michael Padgett.
This volume is available online at https://cva.artmuseum.princeton.edu/ and can be downloaded in multiple formats free of charge. For readers who wish to have a bound reference copy, this hardcover edition has been made available for sale.
