Blue Fox Studio

Titusville, NJ

Blue Fox Studio creates hand-dyed Shibori silk, bamboo and handwoven rayon scarves, clothing and home goods using Indigo dye. Owner Sue Fox Mitrano designs new and traditional Japanese patterns through folding, sewing, clamping and otherwise manipulating the fabric to produce artful pieces in a beautiful range of blues. Variations are a natural result, so each piece is one-of-a-kind. Indigo is the only natural blue dye in the world and, surprisingly, the blue color comes from the green leaves, not the flowers!
“I'm inspired by the unique combination of control and surprise in Shibori dyeing and have great respect for the masters that honed these techniques centuries ago. I love inventing new methods and the challenges of applying established techniques to non-traditional formats, such as an infinity scarf.”
An award-winning former graphic designer and art director, Sue is also a certified K-12 Art Teacher. She holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Syracuse University and a BA in Art Education at The College of NJ and taught in area public and private schools.  She has been teaching children and adults for over 15 years and provides workshops in Shibori and other fiber arts at her studio and in local art centers.
