Blue Fox Studio is the creative home of Sue Fox Mitrano an artist, teacher, and lover-of-patterns.
Sue’s longtime love of printmaking met a new passion for Shibori dyeing in the summer of 2021. Both involve the transfer of designs to a surface, but the processes are quite different. Printmaking involves a careful transfer of a drawing to plate with the image evolving and changing during the carving. The result is a combination of planning and gut instinct.
The "Shibori" tradition, a Japanese manual hand-dyeing technique, is less controlled. Variations in temperature, dye intensity, and fabrics used also create subtle changes in outcome. Each piece is truly a one-of-a-kind.
