Kathy Jeffers of Woodbourne, New York, has worked professionally as a potter and clay sculptor since 1979. She employs hand-built and wheel thrown techniques to shape porcelain and high-fired white stoneware into functional yet highly decorative pottery. By pressing vintage lace or doilies into the soft clay, she creates wonderful textural elements that capture the intricate beauty of crocheted fibers in a durable medium.
"In this fast paced, mechanized, digital world we live in," she said, "I am preserving and honoring, in the medium of clay, the traditional handmade designs that were created by women in our past.”
