Harshita Lohia of Yardley, Pennsylvania, fuses Japanese surface design techniques with delicate florals and architectural elements to create one-of-a-kind patterns on each scarf.
The creative process begins with pencil sketches transformed into computer-generated designs that her small team of artisans convey onto silk sheets. The fabric is hand-dyed and block printed with brushes, combs, ropes and even coconuts to achieve their alluring colors and textures. The process, she says, is so labor intensive her team can only produce a dozen scarves a week!
